how to get rid of some non-sensical rest notation in rhythm sight reading?

Post by chameleon »

Is there a way of getting rid of some of the less useful rest notations on that exercise? I mean having multiple rest of the same lenght instead of the next bigger one?
I frequently get questions cluttered with unnecessary sixteenth rests e.g. an eighth note followed by two sixteenth pauses, or sixteenth rest followed by sixteenth note, two more sixteenth rests, another sixteenth rest followed by 3 sixteenth notes. I have never seen acutual sheet music like this.

EarMaster should not generate rhythms with multiple 16th note rests after each other, unless they belong to different beats. When they belong to different beats, they should not be combined as it will reduce the readability.
If you see multiple 16th notes within the same beat, please share a screen shot so we can investigate what happens.

It is the same rhythm generator EarMaster uses for all auto-generated exercises, so my answer applies also to sight-reading.

Thank you for the screen dump. I investigated this a bit more and found that it can happen when you enable the "Special patterns" in combination with the 16th note rest. We will solve this problem, but until then, please enable only the single 16th note, and not the special patterns with multiple 16th notes.
