Rhthym exercise latency

Post by Frambo »

I am trialing the program and when using rhthym exercises have a time delay between tapping a beat and when the sound comes out. I have tried the options mentioned in the thread posted by AcousticBruce who had latency duration of a 16th note, but it has not solved the delay problem. Do you have a recommendation for a sound card? Or is there some other MIDI isssue?
I have been impressed with the program so far and would like to buy it once I can get a fix for the time delay.

I am experiencing the same problem - this is making the rhythm exercises impossible.

Rhythm latency

Post by Frambo »

I'm new to using a computer for music applications and am cosidering installing M-Audio JamMan or Line 6 UX1 sound card for guitar practice. Does anyone know if these using these soundcards would solve the latency in EarMaster? I've already set Earmaster synchroniser offset but it didnt help. My computer has whatever basic soundcard (soundblaster ?) they installed when I purchased from a computer shop. Aside from the frustrating rhythm issue, I'm enjoying the challenge of improving my ears using this programme ~ have been trialing Earmaster for about a week and doing 30 minutes most days and noticed improvement.

Rhythm latency

Well, that basic Sound Blaster sound card does seem to cause trouble (e.g. rhythm latency in EarMaster). I have an integrated sound card, and it works just fine. So I recommend you to take a quality sound card, one that costs much, but also works good.

Regarding latency, I've just installed M-Audio JamLab for guitar practice on the computer and the soundcard for this has very little latency with Earmaster. I've got the offset function set at 15 and the lessons set to accept as correct if above 90% accurate. I've yet to try any difficult exercises with small time fragments e.g. 32nd notes so it will be interesting to see if the JamLab latency is a problem for higher tempos with small note values. Does anyone have a recommendation for the 'perfect' sound card?
