According to the chart that compares Pro vs. School, Pro should allow
me to create custom chords in the chord identification. Also, the
"help with theory" page mentions dim7'th chords prominently; so
I'm supprised that dim7 is missing from standard chord identification
set. When I select new chord under the edit menu in chord identification
I get an edit window, but all of the keys and buttons don't respond.
I would buy School if that is what is required, but I don't see a clear
statement that School has the feature I want; i.e. I may just not know
how to use the feature I already have. Please help!

dim7 chord identification

Ok, my problem is that I have been trying to enter a new chord from
the "chords in inversion" page. That page only allows you to select
chords that are entered in the "chord indentification" page. However,
it doesn't list dim7 among the choices, perhaps because it is the same
in inversion. However, my teacher expects us to identify dim7 played
in random selection with other chords in inversion.
So, I enter a new custom "dim7" chord in the identification page.
That chord does show up when I try to add a chord to invert in
the inversions page. However, when it plays in decending scale when
all the other chords play assending; making it too easy to spot!
Is this a bug?

user defined dim7
Alan, I just downloaded the newest EarMaster Pro 605P, and here too, the only way to create custom chords is from the chord identification exercise setup window. Funny thing is, none of the chords I define here are shown in the "inversions", so i can't get to practise chord inversions, but I bet this is a bug.

You must define a new object in inversions as well. Select "New custom chord..."
from the "Chords" menu (or right-click anywhere in the list). A pop-up should
appear to edit your new "chord" object. This is not actually a new chord but a
"chord in inversions" object. Under name you will find a selector with the chord
you defined under chord identification at the bottom. Select that name and then
select which inversions you want this "chord in inversions" object to have.
This all works for me under build 603P, however, in the excersize it plays
in decending order while the pre-defined chords play in accending.

dim7 custom chords not working
Yes, I did just that. Opened the Exercise setup window, in Chord identification defined the new custom dim7 chord, it took a lot of time 'till it was finally shown in Chord inversions, (sometimes it wasn't even saved in the first window).
To make your chords be played both ascending, descending and harmonically, select the necessary options like on the right picture... It is played in all three ways randomly on my computer, so I suppose you forgot to check the needed playing mode.

I've selected to just play the chords ascending in both the chord
identification and in the chords in inversion. I don't even need
to create a new chord to reproduce the problem. All I have to do
is create a new chord in inversion object and select one of the
preexisting custom chords that are green on the chord identification
page such as aug6(French). During the chord in inversion drill the
custom chord is played in descending order while the standard chords
are played ascending. My next work-around attempt will be to create
custom versions of *all* the chords I want to drill and select play
in descending -- to get *all* in ascending order.

The technique I describe in the last post work, but is not fully satisfactory.
When I get one wrong I like to compare my wrong answer with the
right one. However, the answers are now aligned at the top note instead
of the bottom. As they are really being played in ascending order a
more useful comparison would be from the bottom.
I would appreciate some attention from an EarMaster representative
on this.

I can reproduce it from your description. All custom chord inversions seem to be played descending no matter what setting you choose. I think this is a bug in EarMaster.
We will look into this and solve it with the next build we upload. I expect it to be ready in 1-2 weeks. Use the "Check for update" function to see when it is available.
