Are you referring to a lesson in particular?

Most lessons move the questions within your vocal range (as set up on the preferences of the app), but you can also sing in any octave of your choice, and EarMaster will automatically transpose what you sing to the octave of the question.

Also, if your voice doesn't cover the full vocal range that you have selected, you can also define a custom narrower vocal range with the "Custom" option. In that case, you can simply specify the top and bottom note of your choice, and the singing exercises of EarMaster will remain within that range.

I'm referring to beginner's course, lesson 12.8 - Singing a Tune: Simple Gifts.

With the default setting mezzo soprano, the range of the first part of the tune is G4-F5. Say I'd like to lower it by a fifth, start on C4. Range would then be C4-Bb4. So I set the customized vocal range to C4-C5. Well then the notation goes down a whole octave to G3-F4. Where G3 is actually not in the selected range, though the rest of the part is. No matter what I do with the customized vocal range, the part notation will either start on G3 or G4.

Maybe at that beginner level in melodic sight-singing it is set to stay in the key of C in order to avoid accidentals or having to change the key signature, as we haven't learned that yet? Or am I missing something?

Thanks for these details. I understand better now.

The issue here is that the starting note, among other things, is part of the pedagogical progression of the Beginner's Course which build up a CM scale step by step across the whole course. But beyond that consideration, EarMaster only moves melodies in octaves within the same key.

I meant that when it comes to adapting to the user's vocal range, EarMaster won't transpose melodies to anything else than whole octaves.
