MIDI output keeps quitting

Post by zacwbond »

I'm getting a bit frustrated with Earmaster because it seems to constantly kill my MIDI output in Windows XP. I'll use the program a few times and everything is fine. Eventually, I will load it and there will be no sound output during the exercises. The volume is on for MIDI and my two choices in the devices menu (MIDI mapper and Microsoft Wavetable Synth) both do not work. When I reboot the machine, it works fine again.

When this happens Earmaster will sometimes (but not always!) complain that the MIDI device is in use when I load the program. I don't have any other programs that use MIDI, so it seems Earmaster must be the culprit. Is it failing to release the device when I close the program or something? I must have had to reboot my computer more times in the past month due to Earmaster than I have in the past year!

Any suggestions?

Hi,

Could you please check the build number under the menu "Help / About EarMaster..." - the newest build should be 624.

We've had some problems with older builds, which keeps muting the SW Synth on some Windows systems. You can check this by opening "Volume Control" on your XP, and check for "Mute" under "SW Synth".

Hope this helps, and best regards,
Normann, EarMaster.
