built in microphone on Macbook

Post by rnajlis »

Hi,

I just downloaded the trial version of EarMaster to evaluate it, I am trying to use the built in microphone on my Macbook. When I go to setup the microphone inside of EarMaster, all seems fine. but when I try to use it, say for Interval Singing, it is very hard to get the program to register my voice. I have to sing right into the microphone, with my face plastered against the screen (not very useful). Should EarMaster work well with the built in microphone? I tried to raise the input volume as well, but that did not help.

Thanks for any advice on how to fix this problem.

Hello,
The built-in microphones available in newer Mac should work just fine. We have tried it on MacBook, MacBook Pro and iMac, and no issue whatsoever. You shouldn't have to lean towards the microphone. Just sitting in front of the screen should be enough.

When going through the Microphone Tuning Wizard (from the Option menu in EarMaster), don't leave the window before the program is displaying the tunes you sing (step 3), and try the available harmonics recognition algorithms (step 4). If the program isn't displaying the correct tone in the tuning wizard, then it won't work any better in the exercises.

your advice worked, and I got it to work. Thanks! (and I thought maybe it just didn't like the sound of my voice :) )
