Which lessons and how long should I practice each day?

Post by Jonespnice »

Hello everyone, my name is Paul and I'm new to ear master pro, it really seems like a great piece of software. I was wondering, being new to ear master pro, which lessons should I practice everyday and how long for each one? It doesn't seem realistic for me to practice them all everyday on a consistent basis so I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

Hi Paul,
You could check this thread: http://www.earmaster.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=1224, or the EarMaster FAQ where some answers are given about this: http://www.earmaster.com/support/faq.htm#how_long.

The basic idea is to train for about 5-20 minutes each day or at least as often as possible. Long weekly or, worse, monthly sessions won't be as efficient as short daily practice.

Try to alternate the exercises you are training with: for example one day: Int Comp + Chord ID + Rhythm reading, and the other Scale ID + Rhythm imitation + Chord progressions, etc.

Agree. I've been doing 20 mins 4 - 7 days a week for the last couple of years, can tell apart all 7th chord types from the harmonised major (maj7, min7, Dom7, min7b5) and things like Dom7b5 also. For scales I'm getting above 90% with ones like lyd flat7, altered, locrian, melodic minor, hamonic minor, the whole and half diminished etc. When I am surfing the online news at the same time it usually 75% though.
