Want to disable guitar view but retain guitar sounds

Post by Stringtheorist »

I notice that when I disable the guitar view, the tone defaults to the piano. Can I retain the guitar sound without any input (staff, guitar or keyboard) displayed in the window (ie. just the exercise controls)? I don't want my students to see the chord displayed after answering as most of the results are not "real" guitar chords you can actually play. Incidentally, is it possible to customise this so that the guitar chords are viable ones?

In the program settings (in the "Tools" menu), you can set what instruments EarMaster should use (On the "MIDI instruments" tab).
When the guitar is not visible on the screen, EarMaster uses the "Piano" profile, but you can simply change the instrument for the Piano profile to use a guitar sound.

OK, got it thanks. It would be nice to see a future software revision include a proprietary set of realistic instrument sounds rather than the ugly and outdated MIDI soundset, however...

EarMaster uses the MIDI sounds installed on your computer. If you did not install any extra devices, then the only MIDI device available is the standard Microsoft GS softsynth, with inferior sound quality.

I have Guitar Pro, with its RSE (Realistic Sound Engine). Is there a way to use the samples from this with Earmaster?

Yes, you can route the EarMaster MIDI to Guitar Pro.
Read the topics I linked to above, and the FAQ:
