Apple DLS SoftSynth no sound

Post by ChrisM »

Hello,
I have Earmaster 5 Pro installed on an iMac OS X 10.6.8.

I want the playback to use the Apple DLS Softsynth (I don't have any external Midi Devices) but there doesn't seem to be any sound during the playback testing in Tools-->Midi Devices-->MidiOut

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Hi,
Could you try to playback a MIDI file in Quicktime? If there is no sound, then maybe the DLS softsynth has been removed from your system or is broken. If it does play sound, start EarMaster, go to PREFERENCES and check that all volume sliders and MIDI attack settings are at a correct level.

Playback of midi in quicktime works fine. All of the volume sliders and attacks are up.

Oddly enough, after I played a midi file via my browser (Chrome, running a quicktime plugin) then started Earmaster, the Apple DLS Softsynth worked. But only once. I can't replicate it.

This is odd. I can't see why EarMaster wouldn't play sounds if the QT synth is working.

Is EarMaster installed in the Application folder?

And have you checked the permissions on your system (with APPLICATIONS>UTILITIES>DISK UTILITY)?
