midi in and midi out volume contol

Post by 3DWizard »

Hi,
I use a virtual midi driver (I actually tried pretty much all common ones for windows: midi yoke, loopbe, loopmidi) to connect to an external synthesizer (in my case pianoteq).
I connect my keyboard to my pc and use it as a midi in device for earmaster.
This is all setup correctly because the sound is generated by pianoteq and the midi input from my keyboard is recognized by earmaster as well.

The Problem now is, that the midi in signal from my keyboard has much less volume than the midi signal from the earmaster training. This results in the scenario, that I can hear the notes played by the tutor just fine, but when I do the input of what I just heard via my keyboard, the notes played have too less volume.

Is there any way to correct this behavior in earmaster?

One additional thing: Changing the midi out volume in the midi out settings has no effect on the midi out volume at all for me as long as I use a virtual midi driver (this seems to be a bug). But up to my understanding, this wouldn't help anyway, because it would influence the earmaster tutor midi volume and the midi in volume the same way.

I'm grateful for any help on this

Hello,
MIDI In is velocity-sensitive. If the playback of the questions is too loud comparing to the tones you play on your MIDI keyboard, you can simply lower the Attack values for the playback instrument used by EarMaster.

To do that, you can simply go to: TOOLS>MIDI DEVICES>MIDI INSTRUMENTS, and set a lower Attack value for the instrument of your choice.

For the other part of your question, the MIDI Out volume controls the Software Synth included in Windows/Mac. It controls the Audio volume that comes out after the MIDI data has been transformed into Audio. To control the MIDI volume that is fed into your MIDI playback device, you can use the Attack settings as described above.
