Melodic dictation

Post by Kalessin »

I thought it was a great idea to have the listener start out trying to identify a single tone from a cadence. EarMaster 5 supports this idea nicely. However, when I decided I might be ready to identify 2 or more tones from a cadence, I found that the first tone was given for me. It seems to me that this defeats the whole purpose of learning to identify tones relative to a cadence, because now all I have to do is hear the melody from the first note of the tune, meanwhile forgetting the cadence and the key. Is there a way this initial bit of help can be eliminated so that I can rely completely on my ear to tell me where i am in the key?

The difficulty will be bigger. It could be some exercices with put after the oher exercices (the same but with that difficulty).

It`s my 2 cents

On the "Exercise Settings" menu, uncheck "Show first tone"
