Problems on Mac - keeps on closing

Post by waldo »

Hi,

I have just purchased and installed EarMaster Pro. Unfortunately, I have run into problems straight away on the Mac.

The program constantly closes itself down.. For example, on the configuration wizard at the start ("Press play to verify that the chosen sound driver produces sound.."). If I press play, the program quits. (There is only one driver listed, 'Apple DLS SoftSynth').

If I skip that without pressing play, I can get to the lessons but anytime I start, the program quits again.

Program is up-to-date and registered (ie, not in evaluation mode). I have no other sound problems on the Mac (2008 iMac) so can't understand what the problem can be.

Any ideas? If I can't get this resolved, am I able to get a refund on the purchase?

Thanks,
Andy

Hello,

A couple of things may cause the program to crash. They are all easy to take care of:

1) Make sure you have installed EarMaster properly, and that you are not running from the disk image (.dmg file) but from the program itself, located in your Applications folder.

2) If you have not rebooted your Mac for a long time, please do it, as the DLS port might be taken over by other components.

3) Make sure you have the latest update (use the check for updates... function from the "EarMaster Ess/Pro/Sch 5" menu

4) If the program is still having problems, please verifiy your disk permissions with the Disk Utility of OSX, and repair broken permissions if necessary.

The reboot did the trick - not sure why I didn't try that before now (I tend never to reboot the iMac!) Thanks for the advice.
