Melody database

Post by trakuna »

I love the new "Melody playback" activity, but where can i get some melodies for the integrated database? Making own files seems very time consuming.

Maybe there is a "Import MIDI file" function that I've missed somehow?

Later this year we will add more melodies, and Music-XML import functionality. This will be available in a free update for EarMaster 6 users.

Adding music-xml import will make earmaster really awesome, I have a couple of questions though:

Would it be able to handle rhythmic figures not available now such as quintuplets?

Would we be able to add a chord track with any chords we want?

What about a percussion track?

Adding XML import will not add any functionality as such.

The quintuplet functionality is on our todo list, but we don't know yet when we will implement it.

The EarMaster melody editor already allows you to add a chords track, where you can select the roottone, and chord quality.

We also plan on handling rhythm tracks and melody tracks in the same way. This means for the melody editor, that the user can choose for every track, if it will be a rhythm or a melody based track, just by selecting the clef (bass clef, c-clef, g-clef or percussion clef). We have not determined when we will work on this feature yet.

I hope I'm in the right part of the forum for this topic but is there any sign of anything on the Lead sheet melody singing excercises? Its just a preview at the moment and I"m just wondering if there is any developments on this aspect of the software.

Can you guys shed some light on what you are thinking to do with it?

I'm wondering, for example, could we use sheet music from other sources on the internet and use them (somehow) as the basis for testing or challenging ourselves within earmaster?

In my giddy mind there is a world of possibities with this. I gather they must have some such software running withing "RockBand" and those sorts of games on the consoles. I've never played those games but it seems like Earmaster 6 is already ticking some important boxes in using these technologies for more "serious" musicians. It would be great to know whats going on with this part of the Earmaster project.

Once again, thanks for the software and keep up the great work.

Hi,

All the functionality is there in EarMaster, we just did not make any lessons with it yet, except for the preview lessons in the Jazz course.
You can already make lessons similar to the preview with the functionality in EarMaster i.e. you can add any music to the melody database (multi-voice or lead-sheet) and use it in your own customized sight signing exercises.
In fact we did already include the XML import functionality so you can import music directly into the database. You can find almost any music on the internet in the Music XML format.
The music XML import (and quintuplets+septuplets support) is already available in the Cloud edition and will be available with EarMaster Teacher 6.1 and EarMaster Pro 6.1, which will be released in August this year (it is a free upgrade for Pro 6.0 users).

Best regards,

Is the export function working on the melody database? I get an error every time I try to save.
