Frustrations with melodic dictation

Post by Richard Hoberman »

EarMaster plays a chord of 3 notes but asks for 5. Surely it is not possible to hear which 2 notes are repeated. Even if I guess correctly as to which notes are repeated, getting them in a different order produces a result of 0 correct notes.

Either this is poorly thought out or I don't understand how to approach the exercise. Everything else on EarMaster is pleasant to work with but this has me tearing my hair out ;-(

Any support will be appreciated.

Best Regards,

This is actually a bug in EarMaster. In the melodic dictation exercise, tones should never be played simultaniously. It has been fixed and all downloads after June 17th includes the bug fix.

Just use the "Check for update" function in the EarMaster "Help" menu, then you can download the updated version.

I had updated to the latest version but was still afflicted by the bug. The update only took effect when I first uninstalled 5.0 before installing 5.1. Anyway, it works now.

Thanks for a prompt reply,

that's strange that we need to uninstal before doing the update!

Is it another bug?

It is not needed to uninstall before you install the update. It is however important that you close EarMaster before you run the update installation, or else the program will not be updated.
