I am evaluating an EarMaster 5 trial version:
Since I have a piano with a good sound generator, I use the "midi in" option for answer input from the keyboard during the melodic dictation lessons.
The "midi out" channel (in the EarMaster5 midi device menu) is set for the sound generator channel of the piano.
The problem is that each time I press a key on the piano keyboard, I hear the note twice: once because the keyboard is directly coupled to the sound generator within the piano (and I cannot change that !), and a second time (almost instantaneously, resulting in a distorted note) because, I think, midi through is activated within EarMaster5 !
Is there any possibility to desactivate "midi through" within EarMaster 5 ?
Thank you in advance for any help !

midi through problem

I know that Roland pianos have a function called "Local control on/off". With this you can disable the direct connection between the piano keyboard and the sound module in your piano. You just need to set it to off, then you will only hear the sound once. I think that other digital pianos have a similar function.
The sounds EarMaster play depends on the situation. When you use MIDI-in, it is not just a MIDI-through function that plays the tones because the output channel and sound settings may vary. It depends on what exercise you use and what instruments you have on the screen.
Therefore it is currently not possible to disable it.

Thank you Hans for your quick reply : no doubt you offer a good support !
"Unhappily" I have a Yamaha Silent Piano which seems (I have asked a confirmation to Yamaha anyway) not to recognize Local ON/OFF !
I understand that sometimes (when the sound generator is in the computer, for instance, or "uncoupled" from the keyboard) EarMaster needs to forward the midi IN Note ON/OFF messages to the midi OUT.
And also that EarMaster sends much more information to the sound generator than just echoing the keyed notes !
My suggestion would be in fact, through a software switch to be toggled by the user, that Midi Thru ( channelling midi messages from Midi IN to Midi OUT) can be "simply" enabled or disabled, other messages sent "directly" to Midi OUT being unchanged. You can find such à feature (Midi Thru active) in Midi sequencers (Cubase,..).

I came to think of another solution for you. In the "Exercise settings" menu, uncheck the "Play tone on click" option. This actually also works as a kind of MIDI-through option.
We will consider to include a real MIDI-through option in a future version of EarMaster.
