note reading

Post by claudia »

I thought that this program would teach note reading. I don't know if it does but I haven't been able to figure it out so far. I thought that the lessons would begin with something as simple as learning to read the notes before going more advanced.

Hi,
Even though EarMaster is covering several aspects of music theory (transcription and rhythm reading for example), it is still a program mainly for ear training. It is not a tuition tool, but a trainer for your aural skills and your pre-acquired knowledge of music theory.

Some exercises don't actually require to know how to read notes, like the Rhythm Imitation exercise or the Interval Comparison exercise, and most exercises can provide alternative answering interfaces to the musical staff (piano, guitar, bass, violin, etc.).

But if you are looking for a program to learn the basics of music, I would recommend that you google "music theory tuition software" or something like that to see if there is a program that could help you with the note reading part. :-)

Best regards,
Quentin
