Recording MIDS

Post by flasherbr »

Hey Guys. I would like to pratice my ear by listening my bass sound. Is it possible to record it in EARMASTER and then use it on exercises? Is there another program that can do that? Thanks

Do you mean that you would like to train with EarMaster playing your own bass sound?

That can be done with some work by creating a SoundFont made of samples of your own bass. The idea is to record each note across 2-3 octaves and compile them into a SoundFont (.sf2 file) with a program such as Viena: http://www.synthfont.com/Viena_news.html. I requires some sound engineering know-how and patience to get good results though.

Once you have the .sf2 file, you can load it into EarMaster and your exact bass sound will be used to play the questions.

If what you meant was actual recordings of your bass, then I am not sure how that could work. The amount of training material would be very limited unless you spend hours and hours recording chops, and you would know each phrase in advance. I am also quite certain that such a program doesn't exist for the reasons mentioned above.

But I think you should try making that SoundFont, it's very enriching as you get to learn a lot about sound, MIDI, music theory and more in the process. :)
