Setting up classes

Post by Shane »

I'm new to Earmaster and am having difficulty setting up the software for use by my ear training classes. We have installed EarMaster School in our computer lab with 8 computers. The computers are not set up on a network. I have 25 students in one class and 20 in the other. I have saved 2 sets of assignments, one for each class, each due next week. I've been trying to sign in as a student and save some results so that I can show the students how to do it, but I have been unable to do so. When I sign in as one student on a computer, I'd like to send the results to a flash drive and have them give it to me. This has worked, but the next time I open EarMaster on that computer, I am staying signed in as the previous student. The software does not ask me to sign in again. Since the computers are not on a network (and this lab is the only place students will be doing their homework), is each student going to have to sign in to every computer and create a username? Can I switch users while EarMaster is still running?

Just a few questions to get me started.

Thanks, Shane

Hi Shane,
There are two ways for students to sign in in EarMaster:

Using the Windows user name, or using an EarMaster username. You can choose that in Tools-Administration-Options. You'll have to uncheck Use Windows Login, and check Auto Create Unknown Users When They Login.
Then each student can create a user name in EarMaster with their own password by clicking on New User.

Of course, since you don't have a network and the computers can't communicate, the created profiles will only be found on the computers where they have been created.

I suggest you assign your students to defined computers where they have a user name, and have them use the same each time. You could for example make a list of the users of each computer.

To switch users, you'll have to close EarMAster and start it again, but that takes only a couple of seconds.

I hope you'll get things to work out soon
