good news for linux users, probably for mac users, too.

Need technical advice? Don't know where to find an option? Here is the right place to ask.

Hey. I recently did a full install of ubuntu 8.04, which means I had to wipe my hard drive clean. Now, I just installed wine (which has been making tremendous progress recently) and I was able to install earmaster basically without having to configure anything at all. I did have midi support installed (on ubuntu: sudo apt-get install timidity) for tuxguitar (which is another fantastic program, btw), and it seems there is no longer any need to follow the howto I once posted here to get earmaster working.

What I'm getting at is that it's now very easy to install earmaster using wine. Since wine (www.winehq.org) works on all major unix-based OS'es, that should allow mac users to use earmaster as well. Anyone want to share their experiences?

P.S.: for ubuntu users, I recommend disabling compiz while you're using earmaster. At least if you have a radeon, like I do. Else Earmaster can get really slow.

We'll try on Osx (10.4) and linux as soon as possible and give some feedback. Of course using Wine won't be that useful on Mac Osx in a little while, since a native version is almost done :) and the update will be free for all registered users, but it's definitely great for Linux users that it's getting so easy to use exez.

Thanks a lot Vincent for taking the time to share your experience and help other fellow musicians out there, including your comprehensive lists of interval examples and advice to users. :-D
