How to stop an exercise

How to stop an exercise
Hey, how do I stop this thing. If I'm working in an exercise, the only way I've found to stop or change to another exercise is to sign off and load again. The stop button works for like three seconds alt f is supposed to allow users to change exercises but it doesn't. Sound easy but can figure it out. I want to stop the exercise, go answer the phone and come back and go to another excise if a I want.
In the "Exercise settings" menu there is a function called "Auto replay question". It is enabled by default, which means EarMaster continues to play the question with 12 seconds in between each repetition.
Maybe this is what you refer to?
You can just disable the auto repeat feature.
You can always change the exercise from the "Exercises" menu and you can reset your score with the "Restart lesson" function in the "Results" menu.
Best regards,
Hans Jakobsen

I agree with the original problem. I like auto-ing to the next question but would like a pause button. Esc sort of does this but kicks you back to the main menu and then it is several clicks to go back in from where you left off.
You know, phone rings, just want to think, etc. - Pause Button please.

Ctrl-F6 does not do anything. It is not Auto replay but Auto play new. I have Auto new question set to Always every 4 seconds. Answer time limit is set to 2 seconds or how ever long I want. So ever 6 seconds is new question automatically. I want to be able to pause this process.
Spacebar would be nice for this feature or some single keystoke.
Then I also would like to step back to previous questions which I detailed in another post.
Thanks.

I'm currently evaluating the program, and encountered this problem also. I do struggle with the logic that says that the lesson settings affect your ability to stop, pause, and continue a lesson. Doesn't really make sense, and the number of views of this thread suggests it's an issue for other people also.
The escape button tip is a good one, although as you say, it does take you right out. I was struggling also to find a way to get into exercise setup (F3), which was greyed out, and found that I had to go into 'custom' lessons. Why shouldn't I just be able to change the settings anyway, if that's what I want to do?
Just a note on the forums. There's nothing obvious that says you have to register in order to post. Also, there's a 'login' button and a 'why register' button, but no button just to 'register'. It could be easier.

Hi all,
Thank you for your input. We will consider implementing an easier way of completely pausing the program in the next version.
Yes, you're absolutely right. I have implemented the "you must register"-function again, because it is easy to mix up people's posts in the longer threads when there are too many "guests" and people only log in frequently when they post. Also the level of spambots are significantly down when guests are not allowed to post.
The forum will be revised soon and I'll make sure that registration is more obvious.

This observation/request is over six months old. It is so basic. Why can't we get a patch that allows us to pause the exercises? We have stated before that ctrl-f6 does nothing.netwiz wrote:I'm currently evaluating the program, and encountered this problem also. I like the software very much, as it does seem to do things in a way that isn't obviously available in other products. However, I just know that this is something that I'd find so annoying, I won't buy it. When there is so much free software available that does something that's good enough, you really expect something special from software that's relatively expensive. As far as I'm concerned, pause, stop and play are just the basics.rickeyjt wrote: This observation/request is over six months old. It is so basic. Hi all,
Let’s imagine you are doing an EarMaster exercise with Auto New Question on "always". Then your phone rings and you want to stop the exercise because it would otherwise just continue until the last question. What you do then is hit Ctrl-F5. This disables Auto New Question, so the exercises won’t continue until you hit Ctrl-F5 again. This shortcut is not listed in the menu because there are three variations of Auto New Question, so I understand if that might have been confusing to some people. We will think of a way to make that clearer in the next version. But by doing this you will be able to pause the exercise.
If you go to menu Help --> Keyboard shortcuts all EarMaster shortcuts will be listed.
I hope this answers your questions

You can actually. EarMaster can run in two modes: tutor mode and customized mode as you know. The quick trick is to click on the tutor icon located at the top of the screen – (to the right of exercise setup). When you click on him, you will see the title of the window change from EarMaster Standard Tutor and Customized Exercise. Then F3 won’t be greyed out and you can change the settings.netwiz wrote:The escape button tip is a good one, although as you say, it does take you right out. It is very convoluted in its execution. Ctrl-F5 if you have certain things selected in the Exercise settings menu, F9 to stop, etc.
Simply put, toggling the SpaceBar should pause the program from doing Anything and resume it to doing what it was doing. Unless you are Tutor guy mode and there is some kind of time limit tracking going on.
I want to stop and start at my own pace.
SPACEBAR TOGGLE PLEASE!
