Using the toolbar

I'm using the melodic dictation, and I require to use a 'tie' from the toolbar, to join two notes, a quaver to a crotchet. I'm not absolutely sure how to use the toolbar. It seems that I have to enter the notes separately to begin with and then join them with the 'tie', but as soon as I enter the quaver and crotchet it completes the bar, and Earmaster returns automatically with 'INCORRCT' because the 'tie' is missing, but I do not know how to enter the 'tie' before the answer is returned??

Perhaps your answer is evaluated because the "Auto Show Answer" option is active. You can deactivate it form the "Exercise Settings" menu at the top of the screen.
