Hello,
I'm trying to install EarMaster on Lunux Ubuntu. I'm using WINE. In fact I managed to install and start EarMaster, but I cannot generate any MIDI sound. And of course that's why I can't make any exercises.
What I have done already:
- installed FluidSynth (maybe it is installed only on Linux enviroment, not on WINE)
- installed Timidity (also on Linux itself).
So now I'm able to play MIDI files via Linux bash, but still EarMaster doesn't work.
I'm told there were one topic on this forum concernig this issue, but it is not available any more.
Maybe I should somehow configure WINE to play MIDI sounds?
Any suggestions?
Krzysztof

I am using EarMaster Pro 5.0.
And I upgraded Wine to the latest one. In EM 5.0, in the Midi Out tab - I can see two Midi devices which ca be chosen. In this case there are: "Wine midi mapper" and "Midi Through port 0".
Have You any advice?
Thank You
KK

Hi,
I'm not so familiar with Linux, but I guess you should be able to route the MIDI output of EarMaster to Fluidsynth via the MIDI Through port. Have you checked if that port is available as MIDI Input in Fluidsynth? Otherwise, have you tried routing MIDI with Jack?
On a side note, EarMaster 6 has its own built-in sample player, so it might be easier to setup. Have you tried to run the trial version via WINE? Upgrading to V6 costs 30€, and besides better sounds, you also get over 1500 new lessons, sight-singign and sing-back exercises, as well as hundreds of other improvements (vocal range option, accurate audio detection, Tenor clef, Functional keyboard answer input, etc.). Might be worth to check

Hi ! It's been quite a few years since I last tried EarMaster !
EarMaster 6 used to work perfectly out of the box on Linux (through WINE). I've just tested version 7 and I get the following error when trying the first lesson :

Hi
Thanks for letting us know. EarMaster 7 makes calls to specific system fonts, perhaps they need to be added to your system?
