Can't get mic to work.

Post by Phil_GMC »

Hello folks,

I have an SM57 (not a vocal mic I know but it will suffice), connected to a Focustrite 18i8 2nd Gen. There is sound coming from the speakers, the halo around the gain knob is lighting but EarMaster isn't detecting the sound. I have selected "Focusrite usb audio" from the device menu in EarMaster interface.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Phil

Is it plugged into channel 1 in your audio interface?

Thanks for getting back to me. It's in channel 4 on the front .

Ahhhhhh, thanks, the clue was in your reply. It works if I plug into input 1. Why doesn't it work in input 4 though?

Cheers

Yes sorry, my answer wasn't completely clear. It is indeed necessary to plug into channel 1. The reason for that is that all interfaces with recording features will have at least 1 input channel, so we use that one automatically.

Ahh thanks,
It's a minor ball ache as 1 & 2 are permanently hooked to my Helix in stereo. Ready to deal with though but would be nice to be able to select ;)

Nice, how are you liking your Helix?

I've forwarded your request. It's not excluded that it will make its way to the software at some point, but I must confess that purely ear training and music theory features have a higher priority on our gigantic to-do list :)
