Progressions: Specific Pattern of Inversions, etc.?

Post by L-tbar »

Is this possible, because if it is, I can't figure out how to do it:

I would like to test myself on specific chord progression patterns, and in this case, different types of cadences. I don't want the inversions to be random, and I don't necessarily want the chords to all be in root position. (yes, this is because I'm studying for a listening quiz).

Ex. Perfect Authentic Cadence, Imperfect Authentic Cadence (root position, inverted, leading tone)

Half-cadence, Phrygian half-cadence, plagal cadence, deceptive cadence.

Please let me know if there's a way to do this with EarMaster, and if so, how? So far, I'm stumped because I can't seem to force specific inversions.
:)

Thanks!

hi,
well, all the customizing options are to be found in exercise setup in the Exercise Settings menu (In the Customized Exercise mode)
You can choose to only have the last chord played in root position :-D

To make the perfect cadences, my understanding is you need to be able to specify the soprano (or top) voice.

For a phrygian cadence, we'd also need to somehow specify contrary motion.

If this can be done in EM5, I'd like to know how, and if not, consider it a suggestion for enhancement.
