EarMaster Pro 4.0 Tone Limits Settings

Post by igdonp »

I use version 4.0 of EarMaster because it suits my needs better than 5.0. However, there is a bug that still hasn't been fixed in the Exercise Setup for Melodic Dictation. When using a high resolution monitor, the Tone Limits graphic is too small to be able to stretch the range or even see the current range. All I can see is the top of the treble staff and one line.
A few years back I asked this question and was given a work around that allowed me to change the Tone Limits. I've tried lowering my screen resolution but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Please provide a way to accomplish this as I want to use EarMaster 4.0 on a new machine.

EarMaster 5 is still evolving, we are working all the time on little details to make it better, as well as making a Mac version of it.

Hans is programming everything himself at the time, and I really don't think he will have time to re-write parts of EarMaster 4, which is not available any longer.

I'll mention your problem though, who knows ;-)

What is it, that makes you prefer EM 4 btw?

Quentin,
Thanks for responding.
I'm not looking to have this issue fixed, but I'm pretty sure Hans remember's the issue and hopefully can supply me with a work around.
Even something like providing me with a settings file that has the range set to it's maximum size would be great.
I use version 4.0 because I'm an advanced user and I find the melodic dictation capabilities the most challenging in 4.0. I set the range to maximum and the number of tones to 5, 7, or 9 and random chromatic pitch sequences. I listen to a sequence one time and attempt to pick it out on the keyboard. If I can't complete it in one try I try again. I use the keyboard interface to start a new sequence, replay it, and check the answer when I'm done. Doing this numerous times is very beneficial to ear training for me, but there doesn't seem to be anything like it that I can find in 5.0, (which I did buy) or any other product that I've found.
One other improvement I would have liked to see is to be able to choose even numbers of notes. A leap of 2 additional notes is considerable between 5, 7 and 9 for human memory capacity.
All the other ear training programs are very class room oriented and very trivial in many ways. So I do really like the 4.0 interface but setting the tone limit range is very important for that.

Thanks again,
-Don

I understand better now :-)

I'll keep Hans updated about your issue, and I can guarantee he'll write to you again to give you guidelines when he'll be back at the office (he's not in for a short period).
