midi remote

Post by saxysm »

I am trying to control my earmaster with midi. I found the settings where to set the midi channel, note etc. I can't find the menue-item "Answer" (Antwort in German). If I input an interval with my midi keyboard I still have to leave it for clicking Answer/Antwort with my mouse. This is a little bit annoying.

I am trying to switch from my HEARMASTER (by emagic) which is very old (running on a Win98 -computer I 'd like to get rid off) but still the best eartraining software I found yet. (Auralia sucks. Just thrown out 200 bucks threw the window.) In HEARMASTER I could work for hours without leaving my midi keyboard. (Okay I only could train Intervals, Scales, Rhythms (very good settings here, too), Random pitches. I could not write any notes.)

Thanks for your answer

Ok, so now all I have to do is trying to convince you that EarMaster 5 IS the ultimate ear training software :laugh3:

You can actually insert Intervals and most of the values in EarMaster without ever touching the mouse.
This can be done in two ways:
  • By configuring the "fourth button" value in remote control (vierter knopf in German). The buttons in this menu equals the answer buttons at the top of the exercise screen. In interval identification, the fourth button is "Show Answer" (antwort zeigen). So when you play a F (1) on your MIDI keyboard, it will show the answer.
  • You can also simply go in the exercise settings menu (Übungseinstellung), then Automatic answer ("Antwort" automatisch) and select one of the two options available: either EarMaster will insert your answer as soon as you have played the sufficient number of tones, or it will insert your tones as soon as you have played the correct answer. :)
I hope this replies to your question

I will try them out, the next time I start up my wife's windows computer. I am very, very reluctant to ditch Hearmaster,l I have been using it for 10 or more years (with some longer interruptions). One gets quite used to a program. But I am really looking closely into Earmaster. If Earmaster were also available for mac, I probably would buy it right on the spot. But running on Windows it still requires me a second computer (which my wife has)...

But I acknowledge that Earmaster also has new tasks (like "Kadenzen"), which I didn't have (or wasn't aware of). One majour change for me ist that I could set the difficulties in the exercises to the last detail. Earmaster just gives me predefined difficulty levels. Which can be good for certain people. Maybe I just haven't seen this possibility yet...

PS: I just realised I can't see the subject, once my message is posted...

Well, actually our current big project at EarMaster is to make a Mac compatible version of EarMaster. So I hope you'll be convinced when that version is released.
The thing with EarMaster 5 is that you just keep on discovering new features/possibilities all the time (well I do at least :-D ) and I really find that great.
