Melodic dictation

Post by amadeus_webern »

Hello,

I'm trying to do the melodic dictation exercise, but I'm not sure what I have to do.

The programme says that I have to identify a scale tone from a cadence. Then, it plays a sequence of chords and after that, a single note follows, which I have to identify (out of how many possible notes?)

I thought that a cadence is usually a I-V-I progression, or a I-IV-V-I, or a V-VI or variations thereof, so I'm not sure what they mean by cadence here. The manual is not very good either, because it does not give any more information.

Could anyone help me? Thanks.

Hi Amadeus,

What happen is that you have to configurate you exercise in order to work in the way you want..

The "cadence" mode is just one of the possibilities for "tone reference" that can be select in Melodi Dictation.. this means that you can use a chord cadense, a root chord or an interval as reference of where the melodi is inserted in the harmoni/interval etc... then is a lot of other possiblities for configuration. One of them is that EarMaster plays (after the reference notes/chord/cadense) the first note of the dictact and you play the rest.. if you don´t wanna EarMaster to play this first note you can turn this function off from the "exercises settings" menu in "show first note"...

I´ll like to thank you for telling us about your problem, and we will look at the possibility to improve our user manual in that area.

Feel welcommen to write again if you need any help with this or other problem..:laugh3:

Thank you Patricio,

I'm using the Standard Ear Master tutor, so I haven't changed the settings or anything. I'm just following the normal progression of levels. This is Level 1.
