Beginner That Needs Direction

Hello Board

I am a beginner with the Ear Pro 5 software and I am looking for some direction in where to start.My keyboard skills are very limited and I know being able to play by ear will allow me to improvise & creat full arrangments around the melodies i sing.Ive tried books but i'm more of a hands interactive learner so those did not work for me.

My goals is by January to fully grasp playing keyboard by ear and really start applying it to my music.I am a true beginner so I need to start from scratch.Whats the best place to start? Can accomplish my goals by using this software?

If anyone has had similar experiences please share your story or advice

Hi,
Playing by ear will indeed help you to improvise, or catch up and transcribe melodies you hear (mentally or played by someone else). However, it won't help your velocity.
To train your ear and getting used to the place of the tones on the keyboard by ear, EarMaster is definitely the method that will help you to achieve that.
Start using the interval comparison exercise, then once you feel confident with the exercise, move on to the interval identification, rhythm imitation and rhythm reading. After that, you could start using the scale and chord identification and the melodic dictation. And finally all the exercises combined.

Your right it only needs a direction a person have no idea about this world first they do must remind the education life to be a successful person.

Hi,

I think you are actually in the right direction... EarMaster can give you the possibility to develop your ears and at the same time to get the global link between the theory and practical application of what you learn. In other words you are going to learn a lot of the theory involved in your musical developing without even noted...

However, your piano technique is something you have to trainee parallel to your ears. This to aspects are absolutely linked to each other.

If you wanna practice your technique i will advice you to use a book such a Hanon: The Virtuoso Pianist, with the theory you will learn in EarMaster will be easy to start with this book and prepare your hand in the way can be capable to play what you want to play.
