no sound with Tascam US-144

Hi,
I have installed the trial version of EarMaster, and I have two problems:
- when I start the program I get the message "MixGetLineInfo 3(11)" and "ongeldige parameters doorgegeven aan een systeemfunctie" (sorry for the Dutch)
- I hear no sound whatsoever, except for the little tune when the program starts. I have a Tascam US-144 audio/midi interface, and this works perfectly fine with all my other music software (sequenzers, guitar amps, etc.) and with my midi controller keyboard as well.
I would love to purchase EarMaster, but I cannot until I find a solution for this problem.

Hello,

It is very likely that if you are using Windows, EarMaster is sending the MIDI sounds used to playback the questions to your external soundcard. However, most external soundcards do not have a MIDI sound engine.

There are two solutions:

1) STANDARD SOLUTION: Go to WIndows' sound properties and click on the "Audio" tab. For sound playback, choose your soundcard. For MIDI playback, choose GS sound or GM or Microsoft synthethizer). Then go to EarMaster, click on "TOOLS>MIDI Devices, and test the MIDI Out sound. If no sound is played, choose another entry from the list.

2) Plug a MIDI sound module to your soundcard if you have one.

Thanks for your help. I tried the "standard solution", but my soundcard is already selected in the windows sound properties.

The second solution then?

I truly cannot believe that I have to buy and plug a MIDI sound module in my Tascam US-144? I have a midi controller keyboard and lots of sequencer software, and this all works...

Hi again,

You don't have to use an external module. It was just a suggestion. EarMaster doesn't need any additional software/hardware to work. You simply need to set up your sound preferences correctly in Windows so that the sounds in EarMaster are played.

Even if your soundcard was selected as Audio playback device, the most crucial option is MIDI Playback (in the Audio properties, there are three fields: Audio Playback, Audio Recording, and MIDI Playback). For MIDI playback, your Tascam soundcard is probably selected, but since it doesn't produce any MIDI sounds by itself, you must use Windows' standard software synth (see the examples listed above).
