Using Garageband or Logic to Play MIDI Data
The instructions on the EarMaster FAQ for MIDI Data seem unclear to me. I have the MIDI Out device set to IAC Driver. In the same MIDI Devices window, my only options for MIDI In is the IAC Driver. Should I see Garageband or Logic there? Do I need to go into Garageband or Logic to make them show up?
Hi,
MIDI In is only for MIDI controllers. If you are not using EarMaster with a MIDI keyboard for instance, you should leave MIDI in set to [none].
Simply Select IAC as MIDI Out in EarMaster, and IAC as MIDI In in Garage Band to have it play the instrument sounds of EarMaster.

I still don't get it.
I play piano, and I am just beginning to learn how to compose. That's why I bought EarMaster. But that also means I know very little about Garageband. I looked in Garageband preferences and the toolbar, and I don't see anywhere that you can change the MIDI In to IAC.
Also, what do you mean that I have to create a software track? When I open Garageband, it opens showing a keyboard with grand piano sounds. It sounds great! 10x better than the Apple DLS SoftSynth EarMaster plays. How can I get EarMaster to play the grand piano sounds from that Garageband keyboard? Thanks for you help!

Well, we don't usually do GB support , but I believe GB is set to receive all MIDI input, so I guess you don't even have to select MIDI In in it.
Simply choose MIDI OUT=IAC in EarMaster, Start Garage Band, if a software instrument track is already created (piano) , and the record/monitoring on the track is active (the buttons on the track next to the volume fader), then you should be good to go.

Perfect! Thank you so much! I wanted to throw my Macbook across the room after practicing with that crappy Apple SoftSynth sound! All you have to do is open Garageband, and click Create New Music Project. A Grand Piano track always opens with a new project. Just keep Garageband open while you work through EarMaster, and EarMaster will sound 10x better!
