Windows 7 midi issue caused by korg software

Post by bevan.broun »

Windows 7 64 bit

all was working fine with microsoft midi mapper and GS wave table.

I purchased a Korg nanokey midi keyboard to use with earmaster. Default windows driver installed for the keyboard worked I could input into earmaster and hear sound. (Actually I only tested the rhythm)

Then I installed the korg driver and control software for the keyboard. It seems to have broken the microsoft midi output. When the keyboard is plugged in I can choose it as a midi out or in. but when it is not plugged in I get no choice for midi out at all - the microsoft devices are gone.

I have uninstalled all korg software - no help. Reinstalled, reboots etc etc.

Currently Im playing around in registry settings at
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProp erties\Midi\Ports

Im hoping someone can point to some good info on windows 7 midi registry fixes.

Thans

Hi,

Have you tried to post on Microsoft's forums? It is not the first time I hear someone gets his default MIDI synth wiped out by 3rd party drivers, so I guess they must have an answer for you.

Otherwise, you could get the LoopBe1 MIDI router + a synthfont player.

Part of my last post missing.

I fixed my problem with reinstall of sound card driver and/or install of synthfont. Sound card driver I think.

Also - both default driver for the keyboard and the Korg driver cause the same issue. (I was able to do some more testing once I got system restore turned back on :-)

I will check MS forums. Ive posted on the korg forums too. Looks to be issues with win7 drivers for these devices.

Thanks for the tip on LoopBe1

Hi Bevan,
Glad to hear you figured it all out. :-)

LoopBe1 is really great. Too bad cross app MIDI routing is not a standard feature in Windows as it is in OSX though.

ok - LoopBe1 + synthfont does the job and I can now use the keyboard for input to earmaster.

Korg driver still breaks MS midi devices but now it doesnt matter.

Thankyou

i have the same problem with windows vista and i also use korg's nanokontrol with their korg driver. so you installed this synthfont driver and that alleviated the issue?

The synthfont and loopbe1 combo dont "fix" the issue - it provides a very good alternative to the Microsoft synth. Earmaster can take input from the korg and outputs to loopbe1; synthfont take input from loopbe1 and plays to speakers.
