Midi input not working in Macbook Pro

I have a midi M-Audio 61-es piano keyboard). I have both versions of Earmaster Ess & Pro installed. My midi works with Garageband inputs. I followed your help instructions for Midi under "MIDI IN does not work?

To make MIDI in work, do the following:
1) In the EarMaster "Program settings" , choose the driver that should be used on the " Devices" tab. If no driver is listed then you need to install one that fits to your sound card or MIDI interface.
2) Enable the MIDI in from the " Answer input" menu
3) Make sure that no other programs are running that use MIDI in. Often Windows cannot handle if two programs want to use MIDI in at the same time."
and it STILL does not work. The only item NOT greyed-out in Answer Input is "String tuning."

Is your MIDI device listed in the list of MIDI In devices?

The Answer Input options are greyed-out while you are at the welcome screen. As soon as you enter an exercise, they will be selectable.

To activate MIDI In, click on the MIDI icon at the bottom right of the EM window, or from the answer input menu. If EarMaster receives data from your keyboard, the green dot next to the MIDI icon I just referred to will light up as you play tones.

Hi Quentin,

Under Preferences and Tolls, the Midi device DOES show up when I select it, however the MIDI icon at the bottom right of the EM window is UN-SELECTABLE and the Midi device is still greyed-out under Answer Input.

Under Preferences, for MIDI-OUT, my Midi is also displayed, however no sound comes out when I press the Play button next to it. Only the Apple DLS SoftSynth Midi OUT is recognized when I hit the Ply test button.

The Midi is recognized in Garageband and another Avid program.

I don't think your MIDI keyboard is able to play sounds, otherwise it would appear in the list of MIDI Out devices. So unless you have an external MIDI sound module, you will have tolet the Apple DLS device handle the MIDI sound playback,and therefore select it as MIDI Out.

The MIDI Inicon is only greyed out in the Interval Comparison exrcise area, and if it is chosen as an option in Customized mode. In all other cases,it should be available.

Thank you for that clarification -- I could not find it in the knowledge base.
I know that my Midi doesn't have external sound on its own.

I can now hear my input in the other lessons, I didn't get much from the Transpose Midi device/Instrument instructions but when I set to Midi In Transpose 0 and Environment Tab >>Transpose 0 it sounded true.

I am glad you got it to work. If you would like to use better sounds than the Apple DLS device, you can also route the MIDI Output of EarMaster with the IAC driver towards Garage Band for example, by following the guidelines from our FAQ.
