MIDI guitar transposing settings?

Post by griffin6002 »

Hi! I love Earmaster 5 and I bought a You Rock Guitar MIDI controller to help me learn to sight read standard notation for the guitar. I was thinking the instant feedback of pressing a note on the guitar MIDI controller and seeing the note pop up on the staff and hearing the note in Earmaster would make learning to sight read very easy. My problem is when I use the transpose option in Earmaster and get the visible note on Earmaster's virtual fretboard and staff to match what I played on the guitar MIDI controller, the pitches don't match. The pitches are the same note value, but in a different octave. Conversely, if I get the audible pitch in Earmaster to match the audible pitch I played on the guitar MIDI controller, then the dot showing what I played on Earmaster's virtual fretboard doesn't match what I actually played on the guitar MIDI controller. Again, it is always off by an octave. I know this is confusing, but apparently what it is is a tranposing problem. I've tried every transposing option I can think of in Earmaster to get all the pitches and notes in standard notation to jive with what I'm actually playing on the guitar MIDI controller and I can't get it to work. It is always an octave off. Any suggestions?

Hi,
We actually just got a Yourock guitar too, so we'll try to see what is going wrong and try to fix it or help you set up the program. I'll get back to you asap.

It is a tricky issue because the notation of guitar tones on a staff is raised by one octave, but EarMaster still has to handle a staff, a guitar fretboard, and a piano. Staff and piano match, guitar fretboard and staff match, but the sound of the MIDI guitar should be lowered by one octave.

I'll talk about that with the devs.
