Buit in microphone

Post by dbrown100 »

My students are trying to use the microphone that is built into their laptops for the Interval Singing exercises. For some, it's working, for others the program just doesn't respond. I can't seem to find any difference in their computer setup that's causing the problem. I've indicated to them that if the built in mic doesn't work, they will have to purchase a USB mic and use that. I'm also trying not to have too many expenses for my students, and if the built in mics can work that is a better option for most if not all my students.

The other issue with the Interval Singing portion of the program is when the program asks for a major 2, and the student sings a Maj 2, more often than not, EarMaster says it is incorrect and that they sang a Maj 2nd. Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi,
Are your students using version 5 or 6?

Ok, thanks.
In both cases, the built-in mic should give satisfactory results. There are a couple of things your students should pay attention to when using the mic input:

* It is recommended to use headphones to avoid feedback loops and having the metronome be fed into the microphone (which would result in erroneous evaluations by the program).

* Before using the mic input, it is crucial to go through the microphone calibration tool (TOOLS menu). In version 5, it is called "microphone tuning wizard". If tones are not recognized during the mic calibration, they won't be recognized either in the lessons.

* Always make sure that the mic input is toggled on (bottom right in V5, top right in V6, or ANSWER INPUT in both versions).
