Music notation showing up incorrectly

Hi,

I posted about this issue in February and was told that the latest update would fix the problem. I have downloaded the latest update, and the problem has still not been fixed. Instead of being able to see proper musical notation I get odd glyphs. I am attaching a screen shot.

I am using a MacBook Pro with Mavericks installed.

Since our plan is to implement this into our music theory program at the college where I teach starting fall 2014, this is somewhat time sensitive. Otherwise we will have to look for another program - we need to make sure that this can work for all of our students.

Hi,

That is weird. It should have been fixed. However it is caused because of a missing font.

The font is called VIRTUOSO.TTF. The problem is that the file name and the extension is in uppercases. With disks formatted in regular Mac OS format, this isn’t an issue, but if your hard disk is formatted as “Journaled Case-sensitive”, then the font can’t be read by OSX. You can either use the Jazz font, or rename the font with lowercase, including the extension .ttf.

We will look further into this issue. We were sure it was fixed. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Another thing you can try is to uninstall EarMaster completely, and then download a whole new installer from : http://www.earmaster.com/all-download.html, and install a fresh new version.

Thanks for getting back to me on this. I've looked through the various places that a font could be on my mac, and it turns out that I cannot find it at all. In other words, I don't seem to have the VIRTUOSO.TTF. I did take your suggestion and uninstalled my old copy and installed the new one, but still can't locate the font. However, the jazz font does work, so at least I can start working with this. Is it possible for me to just get the font? If I had the font and knew which library to install it in, this might fix things.

Here is the location of the font on Mac. To access the "Content" folder, open the Finder, go to Applications, and find EarMaster. Do a CTRL + click on the EarMaster icon and choose "Show Package Content". You will then see the content of the Content folder like in the screenshot below. If the font is named with uppercases, rename it with lowercases as it is on the screenshot. This should do the trick.

Older builds had the font in uppercase, and that has caused problems with disks formatted with case-sensitive settings (which is rare though). It is possible that the font wasn't updated when you installed the latest updated.

You guys have been amazing at getting back to me - I really appreciate it. I just tried what you (Quentin) suggested about finding the font and changing the case. I did find the font exactly where you suggested. It was already lower case, so I did not make any changes. The classic mode still does not render properly - rats. But the jazz does. At minimum I have a solution for my students should they run into the same problem. However, it is something you should probably be aware of.

If you do come up with any solutions, I'd love to learn about them. Thanks!

One last thing, could you please try to reboot your Mac? Maybe some things were cached in the background. If that doesn't help, we would really appreciate if you could contact our support at support@earmaster.com so that we may find the cause for this error. It needs to be fixed once and for all

I rebooted a few times, just to make sure. Nope, still no improvement. I will get in touch with support.

Hi Liz,
I just created a Case-sensitive partition with Mac OS and installed the latest update of EarMaster, but both fonts displayed correctly. Our dev are still trying to find out why the Classical font font doesn't load on your Mac. I think they'll do a minor adjustment with the next update, which might solve the issue. Let us keep in touch.
