Shortcuts for rhythmic dictation in OSX

Post by Ewolwil »

Hello!

Using rhythmic dictation on a Mac is overly tedious due to the shortcuts not working. This has been discussed before here: http://www.earmaster.com/community/forum/2/2060.html

The explanation given then, as I understand it, was, "the shortcuts do not work since the Mac has no numpad". This is strange though since it's the OSX version that we are using, and so it would be reasonable to expect shortcuts to be adjusted for use with Macs. Is such an adjustment planned for future updates?

Furthermore, it was suggested that we use rightclick (ctrl+click) to cycle through notes, and the Fn key for Fx shortcuts, such as "new question". However, cycling through the different notes (and the eraser tool) each time you want to change is still a lot more time-consuming and distracting compared to a simple click. More importantly, there is still no shortcut for shifting to inputting rests (original shortcut "0"). This means that every time you want to input a rest, you have to 1) cycle through the note symbols with ctrl+click to get the right rest duration 2) move the cursor over to the rest symbol and click it 3) move the cursor to the correct position for the rest and click 4) move the cursor over to the rest symbol and deactivate it. As we go through the lessons, the total time used for this series of maneuvers builds up. Is there currently any way to make the procedure less tedious and time-consuming?

I really like the software and I'm glad I bought it, but making it more Mac-friendly would increase its enjoyability a lot!

Hi

Thank you for pointing this out, and you are absolutely right. We are aware that it is not optimal to have the shortcuts on a numpad that most OSX users doesn't have. However we haven't found a good solution/alternative yet. It is improvement that definitely is on our list for an upcoming update. Unfortunately i can't give you an estimate on when it will be fixed. We have to prioritize our ressources on the most vital improvements and bug fixes. It will hopefully be sooner than later.
