I purchased EarMaster 6, because of it's singing activities. Due to problems with, I don't know, the microphone, the configuration, technical difficulties, etc, it just defeats the purpose of why I bought this software.
Part of the problem is that the beginner's exercises for sight-singing and melody imitation are based on the Key of C Major. My singing voice has a tendency to go to the Key of B Major. Although I am singing the correct solfege, I am a semi-tone off when I'm singing. Part of that is I am a instrumentalist, I am not a trained singer and I don't have perfect pitch. But I learned that internalisation is when you can recreate a sound by singing solfege.
However, I am progressing with Interval Singing and Melodic Dictation. I don't find the other activities helpful, so I don't use it. I usually train my ear with real music.
To prove that I am serious at sight-singing. In my frustration, I bought a very expensive sight-singing book called Progressive Sight-Singing by Carol Krueger. I want to progress in my sight-singing. Help with my problem is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

Re: Not progressing with Sight-Singing and Melody Imitation
The book that I bought called Progressive Sight-Singing by Carol Krueger came today and I used it right away. In my first use, I am making big leaps in progress and I remember hearing solfege syllables in my head after doing the exercises.
As for EarMaster. It is a crappy program, with a defunct metronome. Most of my wrong answers, comes from that metronome in EarMaster.

Re: Not progressing with Sight-Singing and Melody Imitation
In the EarMaster 6, I am still using Melodic Dictation and Interval Singing, but not anymore Sight-Singing and Melody Imitation. I think those features are nothing but a bust in EarMaster 6.

Hi,
We're sorry you feel that way about the sight-singing and melody imitation activities. They do work brilliantly on all our computers here at our office, even those equipped with the worst webcam mics imaginable, so the problem you describe is a bit puzzling. You are mentioning the metronome, so I'm thinking: could it be that you are not using headphones while doing the exercises? The ticks of metronome will be detected as input if they are picked up by the mic. This is especially the case with laptops, because you can't move your speakers away from the built-in mic. If metronome ticks are picked up by your mic, then the software will react to it, and the evaluation of your answer will be based on that.
I hope you will give it another chance, and that it will work as you expected. if it still doesnt, please contact our support (support@earmaster.com), and our staff will help you directly. We always do our best to help users until a problem is solved.
Best wishes with your sight-singing practice!
