[bug] melodic and harmonic intervals are presented the same

Post by macias »

I don't know how to report a bug, so I hope this place is OK.

Previously I asked a question about melodic and harmonic intervals, and just to be sure, I checked several sources (because I am beginner). Harmonic intervals are played at the same time (for example notes c and d together), melodic intervals are played one after another (for example note c after note d).

Yes, EM shows both kinds on the staff as harmonic intervals.

It is very common to write intervals as harmonic intervals even when they are played melodic. Only when the interval is a part of a melody the notes should always be transcribed next to each other.

Please note that this program is for learning. Thus it should not use any "advanced" techniques or shortcuts. It should be explanatory as it is possible.

Second, when user makes a mistake in comparing intervals it would be good to check the notes -- and it cannot be done, because I hear some sound, pause, some sound, but on the staff they are shown together. So I cannot tell for sure which is which.

This is most annoying in descending interval lessons -- because I hear descending interval (second for example), but EM shows it as harmonic interval, but since it is impossible to show harmonic interval, EM finally shows it as _ascending_ interval.

Please, change it -- I am beginner and it really slows me down.

Kind regards,
