Built in Mic Not Working in Mac OS Catalina 10.15
The built in mic isn't detected at all.
Re: Built in Mic Not Working in Mac OS Catalina 10.15
Ok, it does work on our test Mac with Catalina. What EarMaster build are you using?
Also, can you make sure that the internal mic is selected as default audio input device in macOS's preferences prior to starting EarMaster?

I'm surprised to hear that EarMaster is working at all in 10.15. I thought 32-bit apps were no longer able to run.
Re: Built in Mic Not Working in Mac OS Catalina 10.15
The 7.1.32 update is a 64-bit app and it works on 10.15, but the move to 64-bit added a few bugs. Those are fixed now, so we're releasing a new BETA today.

Hello,
I add a new post under this topic because earmaster 7.1.35 on my iMac with Catalina 10.15.2 didn't detect the build in microphone.
The mic works fine when I check on other applications.
Is there a way to resolve this issue ?
Best regards
Ari

Re: Built in Mic Not Working in Mac OS Catalina 10.15
Hi,
We can't fix a problem that we can't reproduce. We have tried to reproduce this on our Mac computers with 10.15, but the mic works as expected on all of them (Mac Mini and Macbook Pro).
If you want to help us identify this issue aso that we may fix it, please check the following things and report back:
1. Open our Mac's preferences. Is the internal Mic selected as default device for "Recording/Input"?
2. Same place: is the input level set high enough?
3. Open EarMaster and go to its preferences. Under AUDIO, is the internal mic selected as input device? Is the level meter moving when you talk or sing into the mic?
4. If you answered yes to the previous question, open an exercise in EarMaster and make sure microphone is the active answering input option (open the Exercise Options at the top right of the window and select Microphone as "lower instrument". What happens when you do that?

Yes for both questions. Level entry is at the max

The internal mic is the only one on this computer and is detected by EarMaster, it is selected, but the level meter doesn't move when I sing or talk.

Hello,
I've found the solution of my problem. You have to allow EarMaster to you use the mic in preference system/Security and confidentiality/ confidentiality
There, allow the app to use the mic.
Best regards
Ari

Re: Built in Mic Not Working in Mac OS Catalina 10.15
Great you got it to work. On Catalina, you are indeed met with a prompt asking you to give EarMaster access to the microphone the first time you run the software. If you don't grant that access the first time you are asked, microphone won't work until you authorize it manually like you just did.
