Trial Version Won't Start

Post by LMO »

I downloaded the trial version, build 612P. When I try to start it I get the splash screen with the version info, but nothing else happens, and task manager shows the two copies of "EarMaster" under applications, both shown as "Not Responding."

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with the same result.

I'm running as a supervisor on Windows XP Pro SP3 running under VMware Fusion on an Intel MacBook Pro with OS X 10.5.3.

Any ideas?

Hi Lynn,

We are sorry not to have the posiblility to give you an answer to the problem, we really don´t have a lot of experience with Windows emulators. Anyway, I will try to ask my Mac "contacts" and comeback with some ideas.. :laugh3:

Did you know that EarMaster for Mac will be ready this august?...

I noted some other posts where it was working under Fusion, so there may be some other issue. Do you have a knowledge base of Win XP problems?

I understood that the Mac version wasn't coming until October, so the August date was good news. If you need a beta tester I'd be willing to help.

EarMaster have no problems running in Windows XP, when we talk about PC enviroment. I think the problem is (for sure) the emulator that you are using or the way you configurate the performance, but like I wrote before, we never tested any windows emulator to run EarMaster on Mac, we have been just developing the hold program from the beginning.

The Beta version will be ready in the middel of august, so you are very welkommen to try it. We´ll inform about the release and we´ll be really thankful for your feedback. ;-)

I went back and created a new XP Pro SP2 virtual machine on Fusion from scratch and EarMaster starts and appears to run fine. I'll go through the process of applying Windows updates, installing a virus checker, etc. and see if I can identify what is causing the problem.

Just let me know and I'll give the beta a good workout.

Hi Lynn

..it´s sound great that EarMaster runs ok in that way, I just tryed Fusion in our Mac (just for fun) and I didn´t have problems running EarMaster, so if you find the reason it´could be cool to know why the program didn´t want to run before.. If you can find the problem we´ll be happy to ear about it..

We´ll let you know when the Beta version is ready ;-)

have a nice day,

I've now reinstalled everything under WinXP and EarMaster is still fine.

WinXP is quite stable, but eventually things can get corrupted, requiring the system to be rebuilt. The image I was running in the VM had not been rebuilt in several years, so it was probably overdue.

Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer, but I kept the old virtual machine and will do some more testing with it.

Reboot the system... that´s sound very much like Windows to me :laugh3: ...I think that was a good idea to reinstall everything, sometimes it´s easier to do that, than try to find the conflict, specially with an old virtual machine..

best regards ;-)
