Question: Any known bugs on Mac version of Earmaster 5?

Post by SilentK »

First off, let me thank you for offering the Mac version as a free bonus to those of us who already bought the PC version. I appreciate the gesture of goodwill and will be sure to recommend Earmaster to all of my musical friends--it is not often you find a great product, backed by great people!

I am curious if there are any known bugs to the new Mac version of Earmaster, and if so, if there is an updated "patch" version that is being produced, to be offered at a future time. In other words, should I wait, to install the Mac version, until there is a "patch" version in a few months?

Basically, I have Earmaster running on a PC (Windows Xp) for a year now. I also have a Mac (OSX: 10.5)--the Mac has a nicer soundcard so it would be nice to use Earmaster on it, but I am in no rush, as I can already use the PC version, it is working fine after a year, no problems.

My concern is that if I download the Mac version now, and there are any problems, that I would have been better off waiting until the bugs are fixed. The PC version is working great, and if there are some bugs with the Mac version, I will hold off on installing the Mac version, and just use the PC. If there are no known bugs, and many people have already installed the Mac version without problems, I will install it on my Mac now.

I have had the experience with other companies (Microsoft!) that they sometimes "release" software, and then end up discovering a lot of bugs and then releasing "service packs" (ie, patches). If I did not already have the PC version of Earmaster, I would not care, but in my case I just want to avoid any headaches, even if it means waiting 3-6 months for a bug-free version before I install it on my Mac.

Also, if you post a "patch" version (with bug fixes) at some future time, I assume I will be able to download that version. In other words, I want to know that installing it now, does not prevent me from being able to install a patch version in the future. Sometimes companies limit the ability to upgrade, for people who bought the previous version of a software.

Just want to avoid creating any problems on my Mac, and to make sure that there are no known issues with the Mac version, before I install it. I already use it on PC, so the Mac version is a nice bonus, but it is not worth dealing with any bugs, or any problems caused to the Mac OS. In my case, I would rather just use the PC version, than installing the Mac version and have to deal with problems on my Mac (which is running smoothly).

Lastly, to actually install the Mac version, do I just go to the "Try it for Free--Download Now!" area on the top-right of the Earmaster home page? I assume I click on that, then select "Earmaster Pro 5.0" and then "Download for Mac OSX" to download the Mac version. And then I type in my serial number (from the PC version I bought a year ago) to unlock the software so I can use it permanently (beyond the trial period).

Thanks for your help, and thanks again for a great product and great customer support. When I become a world-famous rockstar musician, I will make sure to give you guys credit! :-D

Hi,

Several updates and bug fixes have already been made available. What happens is that we replace each time the trial version with the newest available. I personnally use a Intel Macbook with 10.5.5 at home, and I must say the program runs very smoothly.

You can install EarMaster on your Mac without fear. The great thing with OS X is that programs won't mess your system up :D . If patches are available, you can simply run the "Check for updates" function in EarMaster and download the latest version. It's easy, fast and safe.

To get the Mac version, you have to follow the steps you describe in your post: go to download>EarMaster Pro/School 5>download for Mac OS X. When the .dmg file has been downloaded, the installer will run automatically. You simply have to drag the EarMaster icon to the Application folder shortcut, and then run EarMaster from your applications. :)

Have fun using EarMaster on your Mac and best wishes with your career!

Thank you, I have gone ahead and installed it, it seems to be working great.

I have had the program on PC for a year (Windows XP) and I must say that the Mac version looks even better than the PC version, visually!

I guess Macs just have more visual style than PCs.

Everything seems to be working fine (I have just spent about 10-15 minutes playing around with the Mac version).

The one issue is that the volume is very soft, compared to the PC version (or even compared to playing songs from iTunes on my Mac).

I have started another thread, asking about that issue. In any case, even if the volume remains very soft, it is usable, and I am VERY appreciative to have been given a free upgrade to the Mac version.

I spend almost all my computer time on the Mac, and had only been using the PC really for Earmaster, so this is very convenient. Thanks again!
